MAKENNA UHEN JOINS CHAMBER STAFF

| The Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce has hired Makenna Uhen as its new Events and Communications Coordinator. Most recently, Uhen held a customer relations position with Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. Prior to this, she held positions with the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Bucks. “We are very excited and fortunate to have someone of the caliber of Makenna join the Oshkosh Chamber team. She will be bringing with her a high level of energy, enthusiasm and experience to this role,” said John Casper, President & CEO of the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce.

Uhen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Marketing with an emphasis in New Media and Communications. “I am very excited to be joining the Oshkosh Chamber,” said Uhen. “Most of my previous positions have allowed me to create memorable, immersive experiences for others. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

OSHKOSH AREA JOBLESS RATES REMAIN LOW Oshkosh and Winnebago County unemployment rates continued to remain at some of their lowest levels in July 2021 since topping out at over 14% at the height of the pandemic back in April of 2020. The unemployment rates for Oshkosh and Winnebago County remained among some of the lowest in the state and region as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD). CITY OF OSHKOSH EMPLOYMENT DATA The data indicated that the unemployment rate for July 2021 was 3.6%, down from 4.5% in June of 2021 and down significantly from its high of 14.6 percent in April 2020. By comparison, the unemployment rate in July of 2020 was 6.6%. | | | | | |

BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND HELP RE-ENERGIZE WISCONSIN’S DOWNTOWNS AND COMMERCIAL CORRIDORS
The pandemic took a toll on Wisconsin’s small businesses, and the main streets and commercial corridors that housed them. Now it’s time to bounce back.
- The program provides $10,000 grants to businesses moving into vacant commercial spaces.
- Your business can use the grant funds for lease or mortgage payments, operating expenses, building repairs, tenant improvements and other qualified expenses.
- New or existing businesses that lease or purchase a vacant commercial space as of January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022, are eligible for Main Street Bounceback Grants.

OSHKOSH CHAMBER ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP OSHKOSH CLASS OF 2022
The Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the beginning of the program year for the Leadership Oshkosh class of 2022. Leadership Oshkosh began in 1989 and has graduated over 1100 students since its inception. The goal of the program is to identify and recruit current and emerging leaders from various segments of the community and to train them to become active and involved citizens. This is accomplished through a combination of mentoring, volunteer experience and education. The program runs from September through May. During the 9-month program, Leadership Oshkosh students also serve as adjunct board members for local non profit organizations, to gain insight and understanding into the world of nonprofits and governance. They also select a community charity and run a fundraiser. The class includes representatives from companies, the public sector and non-profits within the Oshkosh community.

John Carlson, a 30-year veteran of the healthcare and medical device industry, took over the role of CEO effective August 2, succeeding Barry Johnson, who is retiring after leading the company for the past decade.

Allegiant Travel Company has announced plans to build an aircraft and crew base at Appleton International Airport. It is a $50 million investment that welcomes two Airbus A320 planes to the airport. Allegiant says the investment will create “66 new, high-wage jobs.” The carrier is expected to begin base operations on March 2, 2022. The Las Vegas-based airline says the base will allow for new routes and more flights. Locally-based crew members will return home each night. | | |

Cumulus Media recently announced that it has appointed Phil Cianciola as On-Air Host, Mornings, for News-Talk 1490 WOSH-AM in Appleton-Oshkosh, WI. Cianciola can be heard on 1490 WOSH Monday through Friday from 6:00am-9:00am. Cianciola is a long-time veteran of Wisconsin radio, spending several years at WHBY-AM. He also had a long run co-hosting Afternoons on WTMJ-FM in Milwaukee. Cianciola has also hosted his podcast, PhilCast, since 2009.

The 1st annual "9/11 Flag of Honor Across America Memorial" will be held on September 11, 2021 in partnership with Global Youth Justice, Inc. Winnebago County Teen Court was chosen to host this event that will honor 50 lost souls from the 9/11 attack in conjunction with 25 other peer driven programs and communities across the United States. The event will be held at the front stairs of the Oshkosh Court House at 8:46:40 am.

On August 11, Bayland Buildings hosted a Golf Outing at Irish Waters in Freedom as a thank you to their respected customers and in gratitude for the partnerships developed over the last 30 years. Bayland and guests raised $6,252 in funds in support of a local non-profit, Hope’s House, a Green Bay organization that provides grief support for kids and families who have gone through death of a loved one. | | |

After opening their doors in late July, the Oshkosh Food Co-op will host a Grand Opening Celebration from September 9 through 11. The outdoor event will feature live music, sampling from local suppliers, food trucks, and family friendly activities. A complimentary gift is available to everyone who shops in the store as well as hourly drawings for gift cards, prizes, and even a loaded shopping cart of groceries. Bank First will be hosting a FREE Shred Day event on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at 1159 N. Koeller Street, Oshkosh. Bank First is requesting that participants bring a non-perishable food donation in exchange for each bag of personal documents shredded. All food donations will go to area food pantries. All types of sensitive documentation will be accepted for shredding. Confidential Records, an AAA-certified shredding company, will be providing a mobile shredding unit. To ensure enough shredding space is available for the public, businesses are asked to not participate in this event.
