Oshkosh Chamber Ambassadors and members participated in a tour and learned about plans to renovate and expand the Boys and Girls Club building. The expansion will allow the Club to serve more children and teens, and the addition of a community center space will enable collaboration with other local agencies to better serve the families which need them the most. | OSHKOSH MICRO ENTERPRISE PROGRAM APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
The Oshkosh Micro Enterprise Program is a program for existing micro enterprises located in the City of Oshkosh that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualified micro enterprises are eligible for a forgivable loan of up to $7,500. The application deadline is Friday, October 8. | | | | | |

OSHKOSH AREA JOBLESS RATES REMAIN LOW Oshkosh and Winnebago County unemployment rates continued to remain at some of their lowest levels in August 2021, since topping out at over 14% at the height of the pandemic back in April of 2020. The unemployment rates for Oshkosh and Winnebago County remained among some of the lowest in the state and region as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD). CITY OF OSHKOSH EMPLOYMENT DATA The data indicated that the unemployment rate for August 2021 was 4%, up slightly from 3.6% in July but down from 5% in August of 2020. | | | | | |

CONSTRUCTION STRONG IN OSHKOSH The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) recently released the official 2021 new construction statistics, which is a summary of 2020 activity. Oshkosh commercial and industrial construction numbers continued to be strong in 2020, with $45.4 million in total new construction, second only to Green Bay among neighboring Fox Valley municipalities. | | | | | |

Appleton International Airport (ATW) saw a record-breaking month in July, surpassing the most monthly passengers in the airport’s 56-year history. Over 77,000 travelers passed through the airport, eclipsing the previous record of 75,000 set in March of 2019. The airport's growth is attributed to strong family and vacation travel, supported by increased flights from American Airlines, Allegiant and United Airlines.

Members of the City of Oshkosh Plan Commission recently approved the creation of a tax incremental financing district to help fund the Smith School Lofts project. The project aims to turn the former Smith Elementary School at 1745 Oregon Street into 31 low-income apartments, plus garage spaces and parking stalls. The project was approved on a 6-0 vote.

Evergreen Retirement Community is planning a new pocket neighborhood development on the west side of Oshkosh. The pocket neighborhood consists of clusters of distinctly designed homes around a common green space. Named Linden Oaks, the neighborhood will consist of 40 independent homes featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms, open living room-kitchen layout with cathedral ceilings, and attached two car garage. | | |

Contracting firm CR Structures Group, Inc. recently broke ground on the Miles Kimball Lofts project on S. Main Street. The vacant Miles Kimball building will be remodeled into apartments, featuring 28 market-rate studio and two-bedroom units. The building has wood floors and high ceilings, which will be revealed in the units. Opening is planned for next spring. | | |
