Oshkosh Chamber Receives OASD Corporate Friend of Education Award
|
The OASD presented the Corporate Friend of Education Award to the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce in recognition of their exceptional efforts to bridge the gap between local businesses and public education. The Oshkosh Chamber has reinvigorated connections between local businesses and public schools through initiatives like the adopt-a-school program, 8th Grade Career Expo, Senior Talent Track, Youth Leadership Oshkosh, and career readiness activities. Their efforts strengthen community-school partnerships while enriching students' academic experiences and future prospects.
"The Oshkosh Chamber is honored to receive the OASD Corporate Friend of Education Award. We are deeply committed to fostering strong ties between our local businesses and schools, ensuring our students have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive," said Rob Kleman, President & CEO of the Oshkosh Chamber. "We value our partnership with the OASD and understand that partnering with our local schools is not just an investment in education, but an investment in the future of our community."

Request for Delay of Noncompete Rule Implementation
The Oshkosh Chamber joined a coalition letter of national and state business associations asking the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to delay implementation of the noncompete rule.
Under the FTC rule, new noncompete agreements would be banned for all workers and existing noncompete agreements would be unenforceable, unless the employee is a senior executive. The final rule will be effective on September 4, 2024.
As the letter states, due to a lack of Commission guidance on key parts of the rule, there has been significant uncertainty for employers and employees. The letter also highlights that, “companies are incurring substantial legal costs as they explore other tools to attempt to protect their investments, and workers are losing training opportunities and bargaining power to negotiate compensation.”

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATES
|
- The proposed project by Commonwealth Development Company, “The Corridor”, received its WHEDA tax credits earlier in May. The project is to have 2, 8-unit townhome buildings and a 39-unit mid-rise mixed-use building on the 600 blocks of Jefferson Street and N. Main Street. The project is now set to begin construction before the end of 2024.
- The Downtown Visualization Plan was released to the public during the May 28th Common Council meeting. The Visualization Plan is a redevelopment ‘guide’ that helps point to specific areas in the community that have an opportunity for future redevelopment or updates. The guide is meant to help showcase in a visual manner what an area could look like if redevelopment is to occur. The City of Oshkosh, the Oshkosh Chamber, the Community Foundation, Greater Oshkosh Economic Development, Discover Oshkosh, and the Downtown Oshkosh BID all played a large part in funding this plan.
