NEW GENERAL AVIATION TERMINAL AT WITTMAN REGIONAL AIRPORT APPROVED
|
Supervisors of the Winnebago County Board approved three resolutions to move forward with the construction of a new General Aviation terminal facility at Wittman Regional Airport. Two existing structures located on 20th Avenue will be replaced by a single, more efficient and right-sized facility to appropriately serve the airport, community, and flying public. The Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce has supported and advocated for this project. John Casper, President and CEO of the Chamber, states "As the busiest general aviation airport in Wisconsin, with global significance due to the EAA, Wittman Regional Airport is the gateway to our community. The airport should have a GA Facility that reflects an image worthy of our position in aviation, with a welcoming front door to Oshkosh."
Jim Schell, the Director of Wittman Regional Airport, expects to have plans finalized and submitted to the Bureau of Aeronautics and the City of Oshkosh in early 2020 with a bid opening in late April. Construction of the new General Aviation terminal is planned to commence as early as May 2020 with completion expected approximately 13 months later. The new facility will be a single-story, 12,500 square foot building. In addition to serving general aviation air traffic, the new building will also provide space for Basler Flight Service, airport administrative offices, space for a rental car operation and meeting rooms available to the general public.
Total construction cost on the project is currently estimated at $6.8 million. Grant assistance from the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics will be received in the amount of $1.8 million with the remaining balance being funded by the county. The total investment includes demolition of both existing facilities, site work and paving for a new parking lot, constructing the new GA terminal and an improved access road from 20th Avenue.

OSHKOSH AVENUE BRIDGE TO BE CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION
|
The Oshkosh Avenue Bridge will be closed for a 6 month period - detouring traffic onto Algoma Boulevard and Interstate 41
The Oshkosh Avenue (Highway 21) Bridge will be going under construction and will be closed from January to June in 2020. The state Department of Transportation says crews will be making surface repairs to the bridge's concrete deck, putting an epoxy overlay on the bridge's deck, replacing the approach slabs to the bridge, and blasting and painting several parts of the bridge. The bridge will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the construction project. However, the Department of Transportation ensures that work on the bascule span will be complete prior to the start of the boating season in spring 2020.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
|
Through November of 2019, the Oshkosh Chamber has worked with 89 business cases relative to site location and property sales, financing, business expansion, general market research, and entrepreneurial support.
Smith Elementary School Sale Approved
The sale of the former Smith Elementary School at 1745 Oregon Street was recently approved for future housing development. The Oshkosh Area School District’s Board of Education approved the sale of the facility to Tim Hess of Invista Analytics along with local developers, Andy Dumke, Cal Schultz and Chet Wesenberg. The 32,690 square foot building sits on a 2.3 acre parcel of land on the Oshkosh's south side. City Redevelopment Authority Approves Sale of Sawdust District Parcel to Sawdust District Lofts-Oshkosh, LLC
The city’s Redevelopment Authority agreed to sell a Sawdust District parcel in the 700 Block of S. Main Street to Sawdust District Lofts-Oshkosh, LLC. The proposal was submitted by the NorthPoint Development Corporation and was one of four proposals considered for the site. The developers plan to construct 60 new workforce housing units on the site and are promising to invest over $11 million within the units. The project will include three levels of underground parking and a plaza that would be available for public use. The project still needs to be approved by the Common Council, however, the land sale does not require any further review.
The Gibson Social Club - New Event Venue to be Developed at 537 N. Main Street.
A new wedding and event venue is being planned for the former Crescent Moon Antiques Building at 537 N. Main Street in downtown Oshkosh. Local developers Eric and Kristen Hoopman recently purchased the building and plan to create a new event and meeting space that will cater to weddings and wedding receptions. The remodeling of the space will include the addition of a catering kitchen, bathrooms, and three bars including one on a mezzanine level. The entire space will be renovated and will be available for large and small events. The new owners plan to highlight and preserve the buildings historical elements and beauty and will utilize reclaimed or salvaged materials in the process. Plans are to host an “opening” party by mid-summer 2020.
