ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATES | | |
- TRU Hotel by Hilton set to begin construction on Oshkosh Ave in April of 2023 completed in time for summer 2024 (May/June)
- Mr. Brews Taphouse construction to begin May of 2023 and completed by November 2023.
- Associated Bank is to establish a new branch at 2311 Westowne Avenue in Oshkosh.
- The state of Wisconsin is set to receive nearly $80 million to support small businesses over the next several years. This is federal funding available to the SSBCI (State Small Business Credit Initiative) and has been approved by the U.S. Treasury. This program is partnered with WHEDA and WEDC. Involves the following to be distributed:
- $50 million to WEDC to create Wisconsin’s first Investment Fund to partner with Venture Capital funds investing private capital in WI based Start-ups.
- $6 million to WEDC to expand their capital catalyst program
- $8 million to WEDC to support their technology development loan program that supports innovative new businesses with flexible financing.
- $15 million to WHEDA to provide credit support to small businesses that receive microloans from CDFIs.
- A 522 unit housing development is being planned on constructed near Lake Butte des Morts on the Northwest side of Oshkosh and was brought to the Oshkosh Planning Commission on Tuesday, March 7th. The 72.5 acre complex will consist of both apartments and townhouses as well as a club house. The project will be completed in 6 phases, with hopes of the 1st phase being able to start construction before the end of 2023. Oshkosh City Council tabled the development on March 14th and asked staff to organize another neighborhood meeting on April 10th. The City Council will meet on April 11th and the development will be an action item for that meeting.

OSHKOSH JANUARY 2023 JOBLESS RATE INCREASES
The unemployment rates for Oshkosh and Winnebago County remained consistently low in January along with other areas in our region as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD).
CITY OF OSHKOSH EMPLOYMENT DATA The data indicated that the unemployment rate for February 2023 was 2.0%, down from 2.5% in February of 2022 and slightly lower from 2.1% in January of 2023. There were 33,686 Oshkosh City residents working this year in January vs. 33,395 last year, for a total gain of 291 workers year over year. The total labor force numbers in February were 34,385 in February 2023 versus 34,234 in February 2022.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY EMPLOYMENT DATA The Winnebago County unemployment rate for February 2023 was 2.1%, lower from 2.6% in February of 2022 and slightly lower from 2.2% in January of 2023. There were 90,044 Winnebago County residents working this year vs. 89,268 last year, for a net gain of 776 workers. Winnebago County’s labor force also increased slightly in February from 91,627 in February 2022 to 91,957 in February 2023.
WISCONSIN and US EMPLOYMENT DATA The Wisconsin February 2023 unemployment rate was 2.8%, up from 2.7% in January of 2023 and lower from last year’s February number of 3.3%. In February there were 2,983,669 statewide residents working this year vs. 2,980,128 last year, for a gain of 3,541 workers. The 2.8% statewide unemployment rate remains below the national average of 3.3%.
